MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, ME

Fox Forestry proposed a shore land management plan for a camp property in the Mount Desert Island region. The property contained many hazardous trees along the high tide line; due to the nature of the shore land the root system of these trees had long since been compromised.

The shore land management plan aimed at preventing any additional soil destabilization by removing the most vulnerable trees while leaving their root systems attached. The removal of these trees will also promote new growth of existing seedlings and other vegetation.

Thinning was also performed on the general tree stock, especially throughout the understory.

A non-conforming opening towards the front of the property had already been established. Working to improve this section included the removal of some declining Poplar and Red Oak trees and removing other hazardous trees.
